Is adding thermal paste to a heated build platform a good idea?

So I’m about to embark on a decent sized 3D printing run, and wanted to squeeze even more performance out of my heated build platform.

You stated the cause of the “anomaly” here:
The thermistor touching the bottom of the glass surface might not be giving an accurate reading of glass temperature. I want to get one of those infrared thermometers to check temperature readings.

You absolutely need to make the measurements with an infrared thermometer. The thermistor will only report the temperature of the HBP.

Heat generated by your bed is spread through glass more efficiently by the help of thermal paste, so your sensor shows lower temperature. Just put one on top of the glass (preferably towards any edge) for testing and you will see a flipped result.
